What is the purpose of this study?
This survey focuses on how you and any people living with you meet basic needs, including when buying food and other day-to-day items. RTI International is conducting this study with our partner, the New York State Department of Health.
How long will it take me to complete the survey?
The survey should take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
How was my household selected for this survey?
We randomly selected your address from a list of all addresses in New York State.
What kinds of questions does the survey ask?
The survey asks questions about basic household needs and spending on items including fast food, gas, soda or pop and cigarettes. It also asks a few general questions about you and your household.
Is this a national survey?
No. This survey is only being conducted in New York state.
Who is RTI International?
RTI International is a not-for-profit research organization based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. RTI partnered with the New York State Department of Health to create this survey.
Where can I find my Login ID?
Your Login ID can be found in any of the letters or postcards you received from the New York Health and Spending Survey. If you have misplaced these letters and postcards, please call 1- 877-237-5437.
How can I be sure that this survey invitation is not a scam?

Will my name and address be shared with anyone who wants to sell me things?
Absolutely not.
Will my individual survey answers be shared with the New York State Department of Health or any other part of the government?
Yes, but only your answers will be shared. They will not receive any of your personal information so no one in the government will know who gave the answers.
Is it safe to provide my information online?
Yes. Information collected in the questionnaire is encrypted at all times.
Will my privacy be protected?
Yes. The information that you provide will be deidentified, which means that it will not be connected to your name or other personal information.
Will my answers be kept confidential?
Yes. All of the information you provide will be kept strictly confidential. We appreciate your willingness to provide answers, and we take safeguarding this information very seriously.
Can I still take the survey even if I wasn’t invited to participate in this study?
Unfortunately, only those who were invited to participate in this study may complete the survey. By limiting the people who may participate to those who were randomly selected, we ensure that the results are scientifically valid and accurate.
